Alone Together Left Hand Voicings
This lesson is a quick analysis and performance of the left hand voicings in the tune "Alone Together".
The improvisation course contains 2 in-depth improvisation studies of "Alone Together" and so learning and memorising these left hand voicings is essential to get the most out of the improvisation tutorials.
In the follow up tutroials, we look at some advanced minor 251 voicings. First we play a -11b5 chord for the II chord, then move to an altered dominant over the V chord, and finally we play a minor 6/9 voicing for the I chord.

Practice Tips
-
Make sure you can play these left hand voicings accurately and at tempo.
-
In the next lesson when we explore improvistaion, you shouldn't have to think about the voicings you are playing in your left hand.
- This will allow you to concentrate wholey and exclusively on your right hand lines and improvised ideas.

I also found this youtube Kent Hewitt recording (starts playing🎶 At 1:45 min)…to be quite educational… it’s a different funk rhythm….. if you use the YouTube slowdown playback feature you can watch and LISTEN (ie transcribe😄) to some of the improv lines at half tempo. I’m starting to recognize things I learned in this lesson while watching it.

Thanks for sharing Lori. Kent’s arrangements are a joy to listen to… He’s a wonderful musician!
This tune, along with “Stella by Starlight”, are fantastic for exploring improv over minor 251s.
Circle around and around with iRealPro just like Kent is… literally do this for hours on end!
Then when you get on the bandstand you can just relax and play 🙂
Cheers,
Hayden
