Brazilian Improv Course Introduction
This lesson provides an introduction to Jovino’s course where we explore Hermeto Pascoal’s unique approach to improvisation using triads.
Hermeto Pascoal is one of Brazil’s greatest musical minds and also Jovino’s musical mentor. In this course Jovino shares a wealth of insights from his 15 years studying in Hermeto Pascoal’s band
A Non Hierarchal Approach To Improvisation
Hermeto’s intuitive approach to using triads is non-hierarchical, meaning that no triad played over a particular root note is more important than another.
This not only gives us an opportunity to express many different colours over a particular harmony but also allows us explore playing outside the harmony using triads as a strong melodic structure.

Hi Jovino,
Emanuele from Italy here.
Amazing lesson about the “”Triads on C lydian”” the sound is terrific!
Probably I am wrong but I cannot see a triad ”built” on the 4th degree.
I was wondering what the reason is.
Could you be so kind to clue me in?
Congratulations again for your lessons and your passion.
Cheers,
Emanuele

The 4th is normally avoided in major sounds. It‘ s too dissonant. I would avoid the 4th in V7-chords too. Except: sus 4 chords. In case of an 11 in a major sound # it and make a #11 of it. So You get a more lydian sound.
