The Full 12 Bar Blues
In this lesson Jon summarises all of the elements he has covered in the previous lessons and incorporates them into a fully fleshed out 12 bar blues. He plays through slowly and shows how all of the pieces fit together.
The Core Components Of Blues
This includes the left hand elements of shuffle, walking and New Orleans bass, the right hand elements of chord voicing and playing melodies and other features such as passing chords and turnarounds.
Practice Tips
-
Adding all of these different elements into your playing can seem like an overwhelming task - just take things one step at a time and as you become comfortable with one element you can begin to explore the next.
-
Making this music swing and feel good is the most important thing, much more so than playing lots of complex phrases or rapidly mixing up all of these elements.
- While we've only looked at the key of C so far, it can be great practice to explore some other keys and build a more complete understanding of this material.
