Booker had extremely large hands which allowed him to effortlessly reach 10th intervals that many pianists find challenging. His left-hand 10th voicings combined with his rhythmic right-hand techniques characterise Booker’s unique style. We use Fats Waller’s “Until the Real Thing Comes Along,” to demonstrate how Booker would approach a tune from a left hand standpoint.
